Mountain Totem
ms_worldmigrator_down · ms_worldmigrator_upStructures
The entrance to the Mountain Environment, generated in the Mosaic biome on the surface. It starts sealed in rock and requires 6 Pickaxe strikes to open. Breaking the shell drops 2
Rocks and 3
Flint, after which the totem allows travel between the surface and the mountain region.
The mountain region exists on the Caves shard, so Caves must be enabled. A small patch of ground around the entrance is replaced with Mountain Grass Turf.

Entered through the Mountain Totem, the mountain region consists of 9 open-air levels and several side caves. Mountain Passages connect its levels and special areas, and the Mountain Top stands on level 8. Each level applies its own local temperature limits to the world's temperature:
One-time harvestable plants on the lower levels include the Bush, Small Tree, Grass, Sapling, Flower, and Pomegranate.
| Area | Temperature rule |
|---|
| Levels 1–2 | World temperature, clamped between -20 and 70 |
| Level 3 | World temperature plus 5, clamped between -20 and 70 |
| Levels 4–5 | World temperature plus 10, clamped between -50 and 40 |
| Level 6 | World temperature plus 20, clamped between -50 and 30 |
| Levels 7–9 | World temperature plus 30, then clamped between -50 and 0 |
| Side caves | World temperature, clamped between -50 and 70 |
The Mountain Top on level 8 therefore always remains at or below freezing, but it is not fixed at one subzero temperature. When the world temperature is above -30, the local temperature is capped at 0; below -30, it continues falling with the world temperature, down to a minimum of -50.
The "Enable edge collision for players" setting is disabled by default. While disabled, players can fall from cloud edges, usually landing at the corresponding position on the level below and losing 60 Health. Falls from level 2 or special areas return the player to their respective safe exit. Enabling the setting makes mountain edges block players.
Players inside mountain side caves can also be selected for cave hound attacks. These attacks spawn Hound Hawks instead of normal Hounds.
Inside a side cave, the camera is fixed at heading 270 and distance 30 and cannot be manually rotated or zoomed. Normal camera control returns after leaving.
The mountain map has up and down buttons for viewing levels 2–12. While another level is selected, the map uses a fixed zoom and focuses on that level, so manual map zoom is unavailable.

Several fixed passages connect the levels, side caves, and boss area of the Mountain Environment. Using them does not consume items.
- Cliff faces and downward holes form paired routes between adjacent mountain levels, providing the normal path upward and back down. Their transition uses a 2-second camera phase followed by a 2.5-second arrival phase.
- Cave Entrances and Passages connect side caves near levels 3 and 5 to their corresponding mountain level.
- Uncanny Totems connect the deep mountain to the level 9 Mountain Golem arena and work in both directions once generated.
- Empty Totems connect the area near the mountain entrance to the deep endpoint. Giving either end 1 Transformation Cube activates both ends and stores the Cube's remaining durability. One Hammer action on either active end disables the shortcut and returns a Transformation Cube with the same durability percentage at that location.
Destroyed Columns in varying states appear around these totems. Each remaining section takes 2 Pickaxe actions and drops 1
Cut Stone when removed. A complete column has three sections and can yield 3 Cut Stone in total.
Performs Mountain Metallurgy by smelting ore into formless metal ingots. It is crafted at an Alchemy Engine from 10
Cut Stone and 3 Black Coal. Its four ingredient slots do not accept stacks, and all four slots must be filled before smelting can begin.
Smelting pauses below the required temperature and resumes after the furnace reheats. Any invalid set of four ingredients becomes Slag. The finished ingot remains at the furnace mouth and can be taken to the Anvil while hot.
Used in Mountain Metallurgy to forge hot metal ingots into parts. It is crafted at an Alchemy Engine from 5
Cut Stone and 3 Aluminium Nuggets.
An ingot can be placed on the anvil while its temperature is at least 32 of its smelting temperature. Strike it with a
Hammer from the currently indicated direction until the shape is complete to produce the corresponding metal part. A strike from the wrong direction turns the ingot into Slag. A shaped ingot also becomes Slag if it cools below 21 of its smelting temperature.
Metal parts are used to craft mountain tools, weapons, and armor. A Bronze Detail can also be used on a damaged Bronze Lance, Bronze Shield, Bronze Chestplate, or Bronze Helmet to restore 50% of its maximum durability.

A mountain creature released by Snow Monkey Caves around Hot Spring communities. It has 600 Health, deals 40 melee damage, and moves at speed 7. During cave day and dusk it attacks players within 6 units and remains leashed to its home; at cave night it returns to its Snow Monkey Cave.
Each Snow Monkey spawns with four snowballs and prefers ranged attacks within 17 units. Every throw independently selects one projectile:
| Projectile | Chance | Effect |
|---|
| Ice Spike Snowball | 20% | Deals 50 damage and knocks the target back |
| Freezing Snowball | 40% | Deals no damage |
| Yellow Snowball | 40% | Removes 15 Sanity from players |
All three snowballs have a 25% chance on hit to freeze the target completely for 3 seconds. The Snow Monkey switches to melee combat after using all four shots. It may seek a Hot Spring within 30 units, bathe for 60 seconds, and then wait 180 seconds before bathing again. Snow Monkeys are unaffected by their own species' snowballs while bathing.
It always drops 1
Meat on death and has a base 15% chance to drop 1 Apple. The Apple chance is modified by the killer's Luck.

Snow Monkey's Cave
mountain_kiki_houseStructures
A Snow Monkey dwelling found in highland Hot Spring communities. It holds up to 2 Snow Monkeys, releases one every 4 seconds during cave day, recalls them at cave night, and replaces each dead resident after 60 seconds.
It takes 6 pickaxe strikes to destroy. Its appearance changes as its remaining work is reduced, and it drops nothing when destroyed.

Mountain Golem
mountain_golem · mountain_golem_pillar · mountain_golem_platform · mountain_sandblock · mountain_sandblock_charged · mountain_sandspike_tall · mountain_sandspike_charged_tallCreatures
A boss found deep in the mountain region with 20,000 Health. Supplying any Mountain Golem Platform with a total of 40
Rocks and 10
Cut Stone summons a Sleeping Mountain Golem pillar. The summoning shockwave deals 150 damage to players and 300 damage to other creatures within 4 units. Strike the pillar 5 times with a Pickaxe to awaken the Mountain Golem. Only one pillar or active Mountain Golem can exist at a time.
Its basic attack deals 300 damage, reduced to 75 against players, with a 3-second attack period. As its Health falls, it gains movement speed and unlocks spinning and quick ground-slam attacks. At 50% Health it becomes staggered for 6–15 seconds and takes 1.5 times damage while staggered.
Its main abilities are:
- Every 20 seconds, summon stone spikes. Above 75%, at 50%–75%, at 25%–50%, and at no more than 25% Health, it summons 1, 3, 5, and 8 spikes, with 25%, 30%, 50%, and 30% charged chances respectively. A tall spike deals 200 damage to creatures and 100 to players when emerging, and destroys nearby workable objects. Tall, medium, and short stages require 3, 2, and 1 Pickaxe actions to downgrade or remove. A charged spike explodes after 0.5–1.5 seconds, dealing 300, 200, or 100 damage within 3.5 units according to its current size.
- Every 50 seconds, create a ring of stone towers at roughly 18 units. Above 75%, at 50%–75%, at 25%–50%, and at no more than 25% Health, each tower has a 3%, 8%, 15%, and 20% charged chance respectively. Each charged tower grants 10% damage reduction and heals 20 Health every 2 seconds; the reduction can stack to 100%. A tower's tall, medium, and short stages require 3, 2, and 1 Pickaxe actions, allowing players to mine it down and remove its effect.
- Every 40 seconds, target up to 5 enemies within 12 units with lasers. The initial hit deals 50 planar damage, followed by 4 damage per second.
It always drops 10
Rocks, 4
Cut Stone, and 1 Transformation Cube. After its death, Mountain Golem Platforms throughout the mountain region become available again. The Uncanny Totems described under Mountain Passages provide travel to and from the boss arena.

Hot Spring
mountain_crater_poolStructures
A natural pool generated in Snow Monkey communities on the upper mountain floors, with Snow Monkey Caves nearby. It is a water source and emits heat at temperature 90.
Players inside recover 1 Health and 1 Sanity per second. In an Enlightenment area, the Sanity effect reverses to a loss of 1 per second. During cave day or dusk, a player within 10 units alerts non-bathing Snow Monkeys within 20 units.
Only one Snow Monkey can bathe in a pool at a time; this does not prevent players from entering.

Caveckroach
mountain_cockroachCreatures
A hostile small creature released by Caveckroach Nests in mountain caves. It has 150 health, deals 6 damage every 4.5 seconds, attacks from 5 units away, hits within 1.5 units, and moves at speed 5.
When attacked, it alerts up to 10 Caveckroaches within 30 units. After taking 100 damage, it raises a shield for 3 seconds. It consumes many ground items, including food, minerals, wood, and
Gears, and ignores spoilage.
It always drops 1
Monster Meat and 1 Suspicious Ore.

Caveckroach Nest
mountain_cockroach_nest · mountain_cockroach_nest_1 · mountain_cockroach_nest_2 · mountain_cockroach_nest_3Structures
Caveckroach Nests appear in large, medium, and small forms, holding 6, 4, and 2 Caveckroaches respectively. They ignore the day-night cycle and release one resident every 8 seconds; each dead resident is replaced after 60 seconds. Mining a nest releases all residents and alerts nearby Caveckroaches to the miner.
Large, medium, and small nests take 6, 4, and 2 Pickaxe strikes to destroy. Large nests drop 3
Rocks and 2 Suspicious Ore, with a 50% chance for
Marble. Medium nests drop 2 Rocks and 1 Suspicious Ore, have a 60% chance to drop another Suspicious Ore, and a 50% chance for Marble. Small nests drop 1 Suspicious Ore and have a 50% chance for Marble.
These independent 50% and 60% rolls are modified by the last miner's Luck. Guaranteed drops are unaffected.
A hostile flying creature released by a Hound Hawk Nest and active across mountain surface levels. It attacks characters and monsters; when it attacks or is attacked, it can alert up to 5 Hound Hawks within 30 units.
When its target crosses mountain levels, it flies to that level and continues pursuit. It pursues for up to 240 seconds after engagement, returns home 12 seconds after losing a valid target, and abandons pursuit when the target leaves the mountain depths.
It always drops 2 Monster Drumsticks and has a 12.5% chance to also drop 1
Hound's Tooth. Its Hound Hawk Nest replaces it after 3 minutes.
The 12.5% Hound's Tooth roll is modified by the killer's Luck. Guaranteed drops are unaffected.

Hound Hawk Nest
mountain_falcon_baseStructures
A Hound Hawk Nest has 300 health and initially holds a random 2–3 Hound Hawks. It releases one every 30 seconds during cave day and recalls those outside at cave night; each dead Hound Hawk is replaced after 3 minutes.
Attacking the nest releases every resident Hound Hawk against the attacker. Destroying it also releases all remaining residents. It always drops 2
Hound's Teeth and 1
Bone Shard.
A neutral herd creature with 700 health, 25 damage, a 2-second attack interval, 3 attack range, walking speed 4, and running speed 8. When attacked, it calls up to 3 normal Goatpacas within 20 units to retaliate. Its attacks knock players back within a radius of 2.
It transforms into an Ice Goatpaca in winter or after receiving a valid freezing hit. It pursues targets within 30 units of its herd or spawn point.
It always drops 2 Meat and has a 40% chance to drop 1 Goatpaca Horn.
The 40% Goatpaca Horn roll is modified by the killer's Luck. Guaranteed drops are unaffected.

Ice Goatpaca
mountain_icegoatCreatures
The cold form of a Goatpaca. It has 700 health, 25 damage, a 2-second attack interval, 3 attack range, walking speed 4, running speed 8, and is immune to freezing. It actively targets within 8 units; when it attacks or is attacked, it can alert up to 5 Ice Goatpacas within 30 units.
Every attack knocks players back. It has a 30% chance to freeze the target completely for 5 seconds; otherwise it adds freezing progress equal to 30% of the target's resistance. It remains in this form through winter; a freeze-induced transformation outside winter reverts after 3 days.
It always drops 2 Meat and 1 Mountain Ice Cream.
Food dropped by Ice Goatpacas and the core ingredient of Tornado Sorbet. It restores 3 Health, 12.5 Hunger, and 10 Sanity, lowers body temperature by 30 for 30 seconds, and spoils very quickly.
When eaten by a player, it grants a 60-second effect: successful attacks add freezing progress equal to 25% of the target's resistance. Repeated consumption refreshes the duration.

Suspicious Ore
mountain_suspicious_oreMaterials
A stackable minable item. Each unit takes 1 Pickaxe strike, always drops 1
Rocks, and randomly yields 1 additional item.
The bonus pool is selected by tier weight: weight 60 contains Geode Ore,
Gold Nugget, Copper Ore, Aluminum Ore, and Black Coal; weight 30 contains
Fossil Fragments,
Thulecite Fragments, Gold Nugget,
Marble,
Flint,
Ice,
Nitre,
Salt Crystals, and
Cut Stone; weight 10 contains Thulecite,
Dreadstone, and
Thermal Stone; weight 1 contains an Ancient Tree Seed; weight 0.01 contains a Glommer Statue.

Mountain Snowball
mountain_snowballMaterials
A stackable throwable, water source, and extinguisher with a 2-day perish time. It can be thrown 30 units at speed 15. It deals no damage, but wakes sleeping targets, adds 0.4 freezing progress, and within 1.25 units extinguishes fire, reduces temperature by 2, and provides 15 seconds of wither protection.
Using it as a water source consumes one and provides 0.6 uses for a Watering Can or Waterfowl Canteen. When it melts in an inventory, each Snowball adds 3 wetness to its holder; on the ground, each adds 10 moisture to nearby soil.
It is obtained from Snow Piles and the snow-covered variants of Mountain Rocks; 2 can refine into 1 Ice or craft into 4 Snow Layer Turfs.

Monster Drumstick
mountain_monster_drumstick · mountain_monster_drumstick_cookedIngredients
A meat ingredient always dropped by Hound Hawks. Raw, it restores 12.5 Hunger and costs 15 Health and 10 Sanity, with a 6-day perish time. Cooked, it restores 12.5 Hunger and costs 5 Health and 10 Sanity, with a 10-day perish time.
It contributes 0.5 Meat and 1 Monster value, can be cooked, and dries into
Monster Jerky.

Goatpaca Horn
mountain_goapaca_hornMaterials
A handheld item with a 40% drop chance from Goatpacas. It has 3 uses and deals 1 damage, but a successful special prop-weapon attack launches players. Each hit consumes 1 use; it disappears when depleted.
It is also a material for the Storm Horn.

Mountain Metallurgy
ms_ingot · ms_raw_ingot · ms_detailsMaterials
Mountain metallurgy uses the Furnace and Anvil. Copper Nuggets, Aluminium Nuggets, and
Gold Nuggets can be smelted into Formless Copper, Aluminium, Bronze, and Gold Ingots. The Furnace smelts materials for 1 minute, but progress continues only when its temperature reaches the product's melting point: 1000 for Copper and Aluminium, 800 for Bronze, and 600 for Gold.
Smelting produces Formless Ingots. Place an ingot at least 32 of its melting point into an Anvil, then shape it from one of four directions with a
Hammer. Repeatedly striking the direction indicated by its current form converts it into its matching metal Detail after 11 correct strikes. Striking a Formless Ingot downward more than 3 times has a 50% chance to turn it into a finished Ingot. A wrong direction immediately makes Slag; a Formless Ingot that cools below half its melting point also becomes Slag.
Copper, Aluminium, Gold, and Bronze Details are used for their corresponding tools, weapons, and armor. Bronze Details can also be right-clicked to repair Bronze equipment by 50% durability each.
Finished Ingots and metal Details cannot be used as normal crafting ingredients while at or above half their respective melting point. They become usable after cooling below that threshold.
An unstackable result of failed smelting or forging during Mountain Metallurgy. Putting four ingredients that do not match a valid recipe into the Furnace produces Slag. Striking from the wrong direction at the Anvil, or letting a partly shaped Formless Copper Ingot, Formless Aluminium Ingot, Formless Bronze Ingot, or Formless Gold Ingot cool below half its respective melting point, also turns it into Slag.
Slag requires three Pickaxe actions. Slag created from a failed ingot returns the three ingredients recorded by that ingot when fully mined. Slag made from an invalid Furnace recipe has no recorded ingredients and simply disappears.
Fuel mined from the Coal variant of Mountain Veins, extracted repeatedly from a Giant Boulder, or obtained from Suspicious Ore. Its fuel value equals Huge Fuel; eating it restores 20 Health and 20 Hunger. Three pieces are also required to craft a Furnace.
Obtained by striking a Formless Copper Ingot downward on an Anvil. Its melting point is 1000.
Its appearance changes between cold, warm, and hot states. At 500 or above it cannot be used as a normal crafting ingredient; it becomes usable after cooling below 500. Following its indicated shape for 11 correct strikes produces a Copper Detail.
Obtained by striking a Formless Aluminium Ingot downward on an Anvil. Its melting point is 1000.
At 500 or above it cannot be used as a normal crafting ingredient; it becomes usable after cooling below 500. Following its indicated shape for 11 correct strikes produces an Aluminium Detail.
Obtained by striking a Formless Bronze Ingot downward on an Anvil. Its melting point is 800.
At 400 or above it cannot be used as a normal crafting ingredient; it becomes usable after cooling below 400. Following its indicated shape for 11 correct strikes produces a Bronze Detail.
Obtained by striking a Formless Gold Ingot downward on an Anvil. Its melting point is 600.
At 300 or above it cannot be used as a normal crafting ingredient; it becomes usable after cooling below 300. Following its indicated shape for 11 correct strikes produces a Gold Detail.

Guaranteed drops do not vary. The additional chance drops from Moss-Covered and Flint Boulders are modified by the miner's Luck.

Giant Boulder
ms_giant_boulder_grass · ms_giant_boulder_rock · ms_giant_boulder_snowTerrain
A rare large resource node found across mountain levels and in some side caves, with grassland, rocky, or snowy appearances matching its location. A Giant Boulder is never destroyed by mining. After opening it, continued Pickaxe work produces its internal resource at a fixed interval.
Each Giant Boulder chooses its internal type when spawned: 20% empty, 20% metals, 30% minerals, 20% coal, and 10% Thulecite. An empty boulder reveals an empty cavity after 310 Pickaxe actions and yields nothing. Other types require 300 initial actions plus one normal extraction interval before their first yield.
| Internal type | Yield per extraction | Actions to first yield | Later interval |
|---|
| Metals | Equal chance for 1 Aluminium Nugget, Copper Nugget, or Gold Nugget | 312 | 12 |
| Minerals | 5% Rocks, 20% Flint, or 75% Nitre | 306 | 6 |
| Coal | 1 Black Coal | 312 | 12 |
| Thulecite | 1 Thulecite Fragments | 324 | 24 |
These resources are selected by fixed weights and are not affected by the miner's Luck.

A fruit tree found in snowy mountain areas. An Apple Core can be planted: it grows into a small tree in about 1–1.25 days, then reaches its fruiting stage in about 2–2.5 more days. Fruit trees do not revert on their own. Felling takes 5 chops and always drops 2 Logs; a fruiting tree also drops 3 apples, each with an independent 10% chance to be a Big Apple. Digging its stump yields 1 more Log.
Throwing an Aluminium Axe at a fruiting Apple Tree harvests its 3 fruits without felling it, then restarts growth. An Apple restores 12.5 Health and 12.5 Hunger, has 1 Fruit value, and perishes in 5 days; cooked, it restores 12.5 Health and 25 Hunger and perishes in 4 days; dried, it restores 20 Health and 12.5 Hunger, has 1 Fruit value, and perishes in 20 days. A Big Apple restores 20 Health and 25 Hunger, has 2 Fruit value, and leaves a plantable Apple Core when eaten.
Apples and Big Apples cook into Apple Pie, Caramel Apple, and Poisoned Apple. A normal Apple also combines with Gold Ingots to craft a Golden Apple.

Mountain Fern
mountain_bush · dug_mountain_bushFarming
A harvestable and transplantable plant in the Mountain Environment, unlike lower-level plants such as the Bush, which disappear after picking. Each harvest independently draws 3 rewards from the Tumbleweed pool;
Cut Grass and
Twigs are the most common at weight 40 each, while Seeds, Rope,
Petals, Silk, Reeds, Feathers, Gems, Blueprints, and
Gears are also possible. It can also release Spiders, Frogs, Bees, or Mosquitoes. It regrows after 4 days.
Digging up a mature Mountain Fern first triggers a full reward roll, then yields a transplantable Mountain Fern. A transplanted one starts empty and must regrow.

Gravel Pile
mountain_gravel_pileTerrain
A three-stage resource pile found on mountain levels 3 through 5 and in some mountain caves. It requires three Shovel actions; each action reduces it by one stage and drops one item, and the third removes it.
Each drop is mutually exclusive: a 50% chance for 1
Rocks, a 40% chance for 1
Flint, or a 10% chance for 1 Suspicious Ore. These rolls are made directly by the Gravel Pile and are not affected by the digger's Luck.

Frozen Meatballs
mountain_frozen_meatballsIngredients
A stackable frozen item found from Snowpiles at a 1% chance. Each Pickaxe strike thaws 1 into
Meatballs; a stack thaws one unit per strike.

Mountain Tree and Exposed Ore
ms_wall_bush · ms_wall_stoneTerrain
Two cliff resources can only be targeted with thrown Aluminium Tools.
Throw an Aluminium Axe at a mature Mountain Tree to launch 1 Wooden Box, then wait 2.5–3.5 days for regrowth.
Throw an Aluminium Pickaxe at Exposed Ore to obtain 1 Suspicious Ore.

Wooden Box
mountain_wooden_boxMaterials
A stackable item obtained from a mature Mountain Tree. One Axe action opens one Wooden Box and always drops 1
Log.
The box also selects one extra reward from these groups:
- 75%: one equally weighted crop, mushroom,
Berries,
Glow Berry, seed, or other common food item. The Seeds reward gives 5; most other results give 1.
- 25%: an equal chance for 5
Cut Grass, 5
Twigs, 2
Living Logs, or 10
Light Bulbs.
Each box also has an independent 0.1% chance to drop one equally weighted Ancient Tree Seed, Tree Rock Seed, or
Mandrake. All rolls are made directly by the box and are not affected by the opener's Luck.
Crafted at Science Machine tier 2 from 1 Apple and 8 Gold Ingots; every Ingot must first cool below half its melting point to be accepted as an ingredient. The Golden Apple does not spoil. Eating it restores 1 Health and 150 Hunger and grants a 60-second effect: regenerate 1 Health per second and absorb 80% damage. Eating another refreshes the duration.
A head armor crafted at Magic tier 3 from 4 Aluminium Nuggets. It has 100 durability and 60% damage absorption. While equipped, all Sanity gain and loss is disabled; Sanity changes return to normal when it is removed.

Tornado Milkshake
mountain_tornado_sorbetFood
Cooked in 40 seconds from 1 Mountain Ice Cream, 1
Ice, 1
Honey, and 1 additional Dairy ingredient. Mountain Ice Cream is dropped by Ice Goatpacas. It restores 3 Health, 12.5 Hunger, and 10 Sanity, lowers body temperature by 30 for 30 seconds, and spoils very quickly. The finished dish can be seasoned at a
Portable Seasoning Station with Seasoning Salt, Garlic Powder, Chili Flakes, or Honey Crystals.
For 120 seconds after consumption, right-click yourself to become a tornado. The form lasts up to 10 seconds, raises movement speed by 15%, and every 0.25 seconds deals 20 damage within radius 2.5 while adding freezing progress equal to 25% of the target's resistance. It also performs 1 work action on choppable, diggable, hammerable, or minable targets. Being attacked or ending the form manually ends it; it then has a 15-second cooldown.
The final landmark on level 8 of the Mountain Environment. Supply an unclaimed Mountain Top with a total of 4
Twigs and 4
Cut Grass. The player who completes the construction plants a flag, and the Mountain Top is then named after that player.
Planting the flag immediately restores 50 Sanity to that player. The completed Mountain Top also restores 36 Sanity per minute to players within 3 units, with no distance falloff inside that radius.
